Back by popular demand, after last years' exciting The Elements of a Good ESC Plan, Alex will once again showcase his confident style and depth of knowledge in ESC.
Alex Zimmerman brings over 15 years of large scale construction experience to Erosion and Sediment Control training. From large disturbance, linear, and single family construction to restoration and emergency landslide repair his experiences add to informative trainings on real world compliance issues for construction site operators, inspectors, and designers. From his first IECA experience at Palm Springs Alex has consistently found value in the quality education he receives from IECA training. By getting involved in the Pacific Northwest Chapter he has worked to bring more local training opportunities the IECA members and the local community. Working with CSI Geosynthetics in Vancouver Washington Alex has been helping project teams succeed by planning for the productive, compliant, completion of varied construction tasks. Consulting has been keeping Alex busy across the country and in his favorite destination state, Alaska. “The beautiful scenery, challenging climate, and great people make Alaska special and a place I never get tired of.” says Zimmerman. Focusing on productive site management for compliance Alex assists project teams with planning, and site audits to identify potential problems and more effectively insure regulatory compliance. Sought after for site consulting and training Alex finds time to volunteer with his local watershed stewards association and assist the NRDC and Waterkeepers with policy and expert advice. Alex has been recognized by associations and agencies for his professional course preparation and delivery. Developing custom trainings for audiences as varied as Alaska Army Corps of Engineers, Alaska Department of Transportation, Building Industry Association of Washington, Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation and cities in British Columbia Alex stays up to date and informed on the latest regulations and compliance challenges. Awarded the Educational Achievement award for 2009 by the International Erosion Control Association Alex continues to keep up to date and present the latest information. Course participants learn how to control costs, prevent erosion, protect water quality, and comply with permit requirements in an positive, proactive, profitable manner.

Trent will be discussing the state of the union relating to ESC in the City of Surrey.
James Kay is a consulting civil engineer serving the land development and municipal engineering sectors throughout the Lower Mainland, Fraser Valley, Sunshine Coast and Okanagan. As a Professional Engineer and Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control, James has designed and consulted on hundreds of erosion and sediment control plans for subdivisions, commercial developments, townhouse and apartment projects. James is on the Board of Directors of the PNW IECA and is an instructor of ESC with APEG BC and VIU NREP.
With a focus on sustainability and green infrastructure, James brings depth and experience in hydrology and hydraulics, as well as a current Best Management Practices and Low Impact Development strategies. James is well versed in the federal and provincial legislation, as well as local municipal bylaws governing erosion and sediment control.
An environmental monitoring, erosion & sediment control and resource analysis specialist with 18 years experience managing linear, urban and resource development projects for government and industry. Mr. Van Osch's project portfolio includes the successful completion of a number of high-profile highway, forestry, oil and gas and resource development projects. Mr. Van Osch is the lead Environmental trainer for the Natural Resources Extension Program (NREP) at Vancouver Island University who, since 2004, has delivered ESG and Environmental Monitoring training to over 2000 participants across Canada.
Dr. David G. Walker specializes in land reclamation as a researcher, instructor, consultant, and Adjunct Associate Professor. He is a Professional Agrologist (PAg), Professional Biologist (PBiol), Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control (CPESC), and Certified Professional in Rangeland Management (CPRM). With more than 25 years experience in western and northern Canada and parts of the USA, he has consulted to all levels of government, national and provincial parks, oil and gas industry, electrical power industry, ski industry, and non-governmental environmental organizations. Dr. Walker has over 30 years teaching experience at the university level in graduate and undergraduate programs and at the technical level in professional development programs.
Ian Corne is the Application Specialist – Erosion, Sediment and Stormwater, with Nilex Civil Environmental Group, a geosynthetics solutions, distribution and construction company. Through this role at Nilex, Ian is working to promote and educate on the value of erosion control and stormwater management as a means to mitigating sediment release into Western Canada’s waterways.
Prior to employment with Nilex Inc., Ian was a landscape design consultant and general contractor specializing in biomass salvage and Aspen Parkland construction site remediation. He also enjoyed four years as a design studio instructor in the Faculty of Architecture, University of Manitoba.
Above all, Ian considers his role as an environmental steward as facilitated through his position with Nilex to be his greatest contribution to the environment where he works to protect and preserve natural resources and landscapes.
Clayton Gillies graduated from UBC in 1994 and is a registered Professional Forester and Professional Biologist in B.C. He has been employed by FPInnovations-Feric Division for over 14 years and is a Senior Researcher in the Resource Roads Group. Clayton’s recent work has focused on stream crossings including analysis of embedded culverts. He is the author of FPInnovations erosion and sediment control handbook which he has been busy presenting to the forest industry in Canada. Clayton is also a member of the International Erosion Control Association, including the Pacific Northwest Chapter. Clayton was born and raised in Vancouver where he lives with his wife Alana and two boys Caleb and Adam.
